Before the Wilson brothers’ lives became tabloid fodder, before Bill Murray developed a penchant for drunken golf cart driving, there was Rushmore. It’s a movie with an awesome script and soundtrack (directed by the King of Quirk, Wes Andersen) about Max Fischer, Rushmore Academy’s most enthusiastic (and worst) student who just wants to write hit plays and save Latin so he can get off with the PYT nursery school teacher. Plus the Criterion Collection edition includes lots of cool extras, like versions of Armageddon, The Truman Show, and Out of Sight, performed by the Rushmore Players and directed by Max Fischer himself. Good for Wes Anderson fans, closet theater nerds, and indie kids.
