GiftGenius, the ultimate online gift guide, is a simple (and fun) way to find the coolest gift ideas for the people you like, love, and most importantly, want to impress. We post useful, humorous write-ups of gift ideas, including everything from unique "never would have thought of that" experiences; to luxurious, unforgettable pieces; to affordable yet meaningful products.

What distinguishes us is that we put a unique editorial twist on a shopping site. Much like a magazine, our writers report solely on gifts they deem cool and notable. The gift ideas we post on our site must meet a certain criteria. After our writers do their research, our editorial team narrows down the best of the best gifts out there for each category of person (for example, the Stay at Home Mom who works out during time-outs or the Hard Working Dad with a frat boy soul). We also offer other entertaining editorial features, such as short interviews with celebrities and well-known tastemakers (Trust Me, I'm Famous and Tastemaker 10).

GiftGenius' definition of a gift is something you may not immediately buy for yourself, but you wish that someone else would. So, for example, the older sister who buys her younger brother personal surfing lessons is satisfying a want he has, or a want he may not have even realized he had until it's fulfilled. What he needs may be a new set of dishes, or a new duvet cover, but those are essentials he can—and most likely will—buy for himself. Chances are, people don't need most of the gifts we suggest, but when it comes to gift giving, there's a difference between a need and a must-have, and we're in the business of linking people up with life's must-haves.

GiftGenius is a New York-based, venture-funded company committed to providing users with the most comprehensive gift ideas and services. GiftGenius is being built by a team of seasoned professionals with experience across many different industries: finance, fashion, public relations and Internet start-ups. The company was founded by Andy McLaughlin and Amy Zalneraitis. Allan Portera joined the GiftGenius team as creative director in 2008.
